10 Essential Online Resources for Supply Teachers

Here we look at the top online resources for supply teachers. Whether you’re struggling with an emergency lesson plan, on the hunt for fresh ideas or in need of support and advice from your fellow teachers, you’ll find a resource here to help.

Teacher’s pet  

The Teacher’s Pet website contains resources for Early Years, KS1 and KS2 and is full of useful information on a number of subjects. The site is easy to navigate and the majority of the resources are completely free. There is the option to sign up to a 12-month subscription in order to access the growing collection of activities and games, which will usually cost you around £15 for the year. 

Free Teaching Resources

Who doesn’t like free stuff? As the name suggests, Free Teaching Resources provides links to free resources for teachers, organised by subject for easy navigation and include teaching ideas, lesson plans and worksheets. The site features contributions from many different organisations.

Sparkle Box 

Full of free resources for primary teachers and extremely easy to use, Sparkle Box contains free primary teaching resources and features 1000’s of products that you can browse, download and print.

There is also a handy segment on special needs, which covers dyslexia, communication and language, speech development, fine motor control and visual timetables and routines.

The TES (Times Education Supplement)

The place to go for pre-written lesson plans, research materials and a much more. In addition to the resources section, the TES website features an active community of teachers who will answer questions and offer advice on their forum. The site also features news stories that are of interest to teachers, training courses and a searchable jobs section.  You can subscribe to the website and get lots of useful teaching tools for completely free.

UK Parliament

Free teaching resources for all key stages on a wide range of subjects. Results can be filtered by key stage, subject, topic and type so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for.

RSPCA

As well as contributing to the Free Teaching Resources website, the RSCPA have a ‘Teachers’ section with a wide range of educational resources on animal related topics for early years, KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4.

The Supply Teacher

Set up specifically to support supply teachers, The Supply Teacher is regularly updated with news and useful information. The owner of The Supply Teacher also active on social media and there is always something new and fresh for supply teachers to use and learn from.

Supply Bag

This website is written and owned by an ex-supply teacher who understands the pressures and challenges of working on supply. You’ll find resources, information and support, and the Facebook group has over 3,500 teachers all eager and willing to share ideas and stories.

Classroom Secrets  

Very popular with supply teachers because of its differentiated material, at Classroom Secrets you’ll find loads of free resources. From English, Maths and Science topics, to early morning work, this site has a variety of tools to help you succeed in the classroom. Sign up to their news feed to take full advantage of their wonderful material.   

Twinkl   

This friendly site has resources for all types of teachers, not just supply teachers. It features a vast range of downloadable resources including storyboard templates, board games, quizzes, presentations, challenges, resource packs, information sheets, assessment packs, lesson plans, wall display packs, audit plan sheets and much, much more. Supply teachers can join for free to access the material at their fingertips.
