Umbrella Company Payslips – A Closer Look

If you’re working for an umbrella company for the first time, you’ll notice that your pay documents contain more information than you’re used to seeing as a conventional employee. It’s important that you understand your pay, so in this article we’ll take a close look at your Orange Genie pay documents and what they mean.

We want your pay documents to be as easy as possible to follow, and to that end your payslip contains two separate sections.

  • The Income Statement

    – explains how we get from the amount we charge the agency/client to your gross pay.

  • Your Payslip – explains how your net pay is calculated from your gross pay, just like the payslips you might be used to from conventional employment.

Your pay documents will be available to download from the Your Pay and Pensions section of your Orange Genie Companion portal.

The Income Statement

The income statement section shows you how we arrive at your taxable pay.

We receive assignment income paid by the agency for the work you’ve done.

We calculate the costs of employing you, including your Holiday Pay and Workplace Pension contributions, Employer’s National Insurance and Apprenticeship Levy.

These costs are deducted from the assignment income, along with the small margin we make.

The balance of the sum becomes your taxable pay for the period.

It’s paid to you as National Minimum/Living Wage for the hours you’ve worked and the balance as a profit share.

The Payslip

The payslip shows how your net pay/take home pay is calculated from the taxable pay figure referred to earlier.

It’s a standard payslip format showing year to date information, earnings and deductions alongside the period the payment relates to, the number of hours worked and your personal information.

Check out our Umbrella Payslip Guide for more information about your pay documents.
