Meet the Orange Genie Team – Marnie

Following on from our interviews with Tyler and Sophia, this month’s Meet the Team episode features Marnie, who oversees the day to day running our Contractor Support team (CST). If you’re employed by Orange Genie, you may have had the pleasure of speaking to her.

Marnie is responsible for quality control checks, as well as escalations and the coaching and training of team members. As most queries are about pay, contract detail or our employee benefits, the answers often have a significant effect on our employees’ lives and it’s vital that CST are properly developed and supported.

Whether she’s assisting an employee directly or supporting her colleagues, Marnie is meticulous, reliable and focused on achieving the best possible outcome.

As if to underline these qualities, Marnie requested our interview questions in advance, and came armed with written notes, which we didn’t expect. There’s a refreshing directness, both to her serious answers and her humour and she gives the impression that her mind is clear and uncluttered – focused, in fact, on the task at hand.

On the most important part of her job, Marnie talks about the contractors’ experience. She sees each interaction as an opportunity to exceed their expectations, and to leave them feeling good about their employment with us, even if the call begins as a complaint.

When asked what she likes most about her job, Marnie talks about solving problems and making things better, which includes lifting her team members towards their potential and setting them up for future success.

On what it’s like to work at Orange Genie, she focuses on the friendly and co-operative culture. We really are a single team and all across the business our instinct is to pull together and support each other, even when we’re doing vastly different work in separate parts of the building.

On a more personal level, Marnie reveals her love of the outdoors and being surrounded by nature. This affinity with the wild is expressed in her art, which she practices through a number of mediums, including sculpture, pottery and painting. She loves to experiment with natural materials, and the resulting pieces are either given as gifts or added to her own collection. She lives with her two pet rats and two cats which, she assures us, are the best of friends.

Marnie was one of six Orange Genie colleagues who recently took on the Surrey Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Buckinghamshire Mind. It was indeed a challenge, as evidenced by blisters, fatigue and occasional limping in the days that followed, but it was also a triumph, with lots of positive memories, interesting stories and money raised.

Talking about it now, Marnie’s enthusiasm is clear and infectious and it seems the adventure has uncovered a love of hiking that she fully intends to explore.
