What Umbrella Company Employees Need to Know About Salary Sacrifice Pensions

As an Orange Genie umbrella company employee, you will be automatically enrolled onto our workplace pension scheme. Alternatively, you can contribute to another pension scheme of your choice, via salary sacrifice at no cost to you.

What is Salary Sacrifice?

As the name suggests, salary sacrifice is where you voluntarily give up an amount of your taxable salary, and your employer makes a corresponding payment into your pension. We’ll make an employer pension contribution for the amount you’ve requested to sacrifice, as this is more advantageous for you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do Orange Genie charge employees to use a personal pension scheme?

Absolutely not - we’ll never charge you for using a personal pension scheme.

Is there a minimum contribution?

We don’t set a minimum contribution, but some providers do. You should discuss this with them if you’re not sure. If you’re using your own personal pension scheme for salary sacrifice, you can opt to sacrifice any fixed amount as long as it doesn’t reduce your gross pay below National Minimum Wage for hours worked.

Can I make changes to my fixed amount?

In general, once you’ve chosen your fixed amount it should stay fixed. However, you are allowed to change it if you have a change of circumstances that could be classed as a “lifestyle change”.

How are payments made to my pension provider?

We make payments by BACS transfer, so we’ll need your pension provider’s bank details. We’re not able to make payments by Direct Debit, but we can discuss the payment method with your pension provider if necessary.

When are payments made to my pension provider?

Contributions are paid to your pension provider on the 6th of the month after we calculate the contribution.
